The longstanding architecture bookshop Nanyodo can be found on the verge of Kanda Jimbocho, housed in a slender concrete building with a geometric facade.

As one of the highlights of Jimbocho’s book town, Nanyodo’s history of reconstruction, renovation and renewal over the past century has created a unique setting for its selection of architectural publications.

The architects who have shaped the building over the years have left behind some intriguing details both inside and out. From the street-side shelves to the pencil marks and construction notes scattered along the walls, these easily overlooked details add layers to the building’s character.

Spread across three floors, various bookshelves and podiums are filled with new-release magazines, monologues, guides and English-language publications, arranged in a way that entices you into the fascinating world of Japanese architecture.
